MyStoic's morning page: Meditations 2.1 in George Long's words, our plain summary, and the mood check-in. Today in the light theme: Morning, Midday and Night, each with its reading. This week: the week's question and day 3 of the Stoic Week.

Three moments a day

Morning · Prepare looks ahead to the day, Midday · Retreat is a two-minute pause, and Night · Review is the evening review the Stoics kept. Each has a reading from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca or Epictetus and one question to answer. A reading for every date of the year, 1,098 passages in all, so next year the same date shows you how your answers have changed.

Their words, word for word

Every passage is from a classic public-domain translation — George Long's Meditations, Discourses and Enchiridion, Aubrey Stewart's Seneca — with its citation. Under it, a short summary in plain modern English, always labeled as ours, so it is never mistaken for the original. A study guide covers who the three were and the ideas they keep coming back to.

A journal shaped like a planner page

Say how you are coming in. In the morning, three intentions, one thing in your control and three things you are grateful for; stuck, and Give me three offers starters. At midday, what is disturbing you, and whether it is yours to control. At night, check off the intentions and write what went well. Type or just talk: dictation runs on your iPhone. Lock past days with Face ID.

A week of practice

The laurel beside the title opens This week: one question for the week, and a Stoic Week of seven practices in seven days, each on a passage, begun whenever you like. A missed day waits; nothing is lost. Reminders, if you want them, arrive at the times you choose and carry the day's theme.
