Psalm — Terms of Use

Your license to use Psalm

Norvela LLC grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Psalm on Apple devices you own or control, for as long as you like. You are buying or downloading the right to use the app, not the app itself.

What that license does not cover: copying, selling, renting or redistributing the app; taking it apart, decompiling it or reverse-engineering it, except where the law says you may; or removing the notices inside it. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to anything downloaded from the App Store.

What you write

Your journal entries are yours. We claim no right to them and no license over them, and we could not use them if we wanted to: they are stored on your device and the app sends nothing anywhere.

The consequence is worth stating plainly. You are the only one holding a copy. If you lose the device, or delete the app, or delete an entry and let the 30-day window in Recently Deleted run out, we cannot get it back for you. There is nothing on our side to restore from. The journal can export what you have written as a text file, and it is worth doing now and then.

The App Store

There is nothing to buy inside Psalm — no subscription, no unlock, no in-app purchases. Anything to do with the download itself, including price, receipts, Family Sharing and refunds, is handled by Apple under Apple's own terms, not by us. If you want a refund, ask Apple.

The scripture, and what it is not

Psalm ships four Bible translations, and all four are in the public domain: the King James Version, the World English Bible (Updated), the American Standard Version and Young's Literal Translation. No permission is needed to read, quote or share any of them, from us or from anyone else.

The app itself — its readings, reflections, prayers, design and code — is the work of Norvela LLC and stays ours.

Psalm is a reading and journaling app. It is not counseling, and it is not medical, legal, financial or professional advice of any kind. If you are struggling, please talk to someone who can help.

No warranty

Psalm is provided as it is. We build it carefully and we use it ourselves, but we cannot promise that it is free of faults, that it will suit any particular purpose, or that it will keep working on every future version of iOS. To the extent the law allows, that is the whole of the warranty: there is no other one, stated or implied.

Some places do not allow a warranty to be excluded like that. Where that is true where you live, this section does not take away any right you have.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Norvela LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising out of your use of Psalm, including lost writing or lost time. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for the app.

Nothing here limits liability that the law does not permit us to limit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a mandatory consumer-protection law where you live gives you rights these terms do not, that law applies to you as well.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the page changes and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app after that means the new terms apply.
