The tuner
Violin, viola, cello, double bass, mandolin, guitar, ukulele and banjo — and the cross-tunings old-time players actually use: AEAE, GDGD, DDAD, DADGAD, open G and more.
A steady needle in cents, a reference A anywhere from 415 to 446, and pure-fifths tuning for the open strings when you want it.
The drone is shaped like a bowed string, not a sine wave, so you can tune by ear as well as by eye — which is how a fiddle gets in tune with itself.
The metronome
Subdivisions, accent patterns, and a tempo climb for building speed one notch at a time.
The click keeps going with the phone locked, and the controls are on the lock screen. You should not have to unlock a phone mid-tune.
The ear trainer plays a real violin
Intervals and scale degrees over a held tonic — sounded on a recorded violin, not a beep. Ear training on a sine wave teaches you to recognise a sine wave. The instrument you are training for should be the instrument you hear.
The violin is recorded, public-domain audio that ships inside the app. It is not streamed and it is not generated.
Reading, and the note trainer
Graded sight-reading exercises with a fingerboard underneath showing where each note lives. Wait mode holds until you play the right note. Play-through scores each bar and tells you what you missed. Transpose to any key.
The note trainer is the short version: read a note on sight, play it, and the app hears whether you got it.
Record it, and read it back
Record a rehearsal, a lesson, or a take against the click. Ask the app to listen and it reads the recording back as key, tempo, chords and the top line, and exports the notes as MIDI to GarageBand or anywhere else.
That reading is a suggestion to check against your hands, not a fact. It is a machine listening to a room, and we would rather say so than let you find out.
Capture does the same job forward: play a tune and get it written down — notation, tab for your instrument, and suggested chords.
A take you delete waits thirty days in the bin before it goes for good.
Set lists and a practice log
A running order for the night with keys, singers, tempos and chord sheets. And a practice log that fills itself in as you practice, because a log you have to remember to write is a log you stop writing.
Nothing leaves your phone
Everything runs on the device. The microphone is analyzed live and forgotten. A recording is written only when you press record, and it stays on your device until you delete it or share it yourself.

What it costs
Free. No subscription, no unlock, no in-app purchases, no ads. There is no paywall anywhere in the app and nothing is held back.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.
- Permission for the microphone, for the tuner, the note trainer and recording. The metronome, the reading trainer and the ear trainer all work without it.
- Nothing else. No account, no email address, no sign-up, no connection.
Something not working? The support page covers the tuner, the microphone permission, recordings and the bin.
